Hi guys!

Gonna use this shot for the WA, and another user thought that it might be a stronger image without the contextual hand/can in the shot.

What say you?

Thanks!

Jeff

First, this is way better than anything I came up with for this week's assignment. Excellent shot.

Second, I don't understand how you'd remove the hand and still have the shot make sense.

edit: I see I've removed the wrong hand, but I'll leave this here anyway

Did you want to remove this hand. How is this fire happening? The match seems important, yes?

Thanks George! It was interesting to do solo (yay for wireless shutter releases), but I dig how it came out.

I agree that the match/hand/can add much needed context.

Cheers,

Jeff

Here it is with the can hand removed (instead of the match hand). This has a lot more potential, but I still like it with the can included. I can see another shot with forced perspective making the fire go up from an open palm being interesting.

I'm even more impressed that you were able to do this solo. What did you do, hit the trigger with your mouth?

Yeah above is what the other poster was referring to. Maybe if I 'shopped my face in there blowing the fire lol.

Ha! Trigger was in the same hand holding the match.

Just saw your entry over there Jeff. Nice job!

I agree with Jon's suggestion and George's last edit above. I think just leaving the match and hand is much stronger and as Jon said, it adds a bit of mystery.

I couldn't "shoot" mine solo due to my primitive tools at hand so I had to get my son-in-law to help. Somewhere down the road I'll be able to "shoot" them solo as well.

Good luck this week!
It looks like you might have a winner in last weeks on your hands as well! Shaweeet!

Thanks Dave! I'll noodle the can vs. canless as the day goes and figure out the final version before the deadline.

I'm very glad you didn't try to shoot yours solo, or FM might be minus a Dave as the result.

I hope your insurance is paid up before you do this kind of photography.

Maybe a little tighter crop and lightening of the hand.

This is actually what I first thought you had done here until I saw the can.
I thought, "Damn! A photographer IT guy that is also a flamethrower!"

Showing the can reduces the "magic" and "how'd he do that" of the photo.

This screams for a double exposure. All that black background makes for perfect place for you to plant your mug, so it comes across as you breathing fire.

The WA is about challenging / growth. If you've not done much double exposure / composting ... "Go For It".

Otherwise, I dig the "texture" of the flames.

Guess I getter get busy if I'm gonna put together an entry this week, huh?

Well the thing is, my face IS in the capture. Just might have to move it. But if that doesn't work out then I'll look at a double exposure.

And yes, you absolutely need to get moving - 24 hours bro!

Creative
Well-executed
No can/last edit
You need a hand for some intent/storyline but the story is more incomplete and open to interpretation in a more compelling way without the can

Good luck
Strong entry!!!

Thanks, Scott - seems like the overwhelming opinion is to nix the can.
