Bulky, yes. Also, less functional than an L-bracket. It could be a decent solution if you're frequently shooting in horizontal orientation on a variety of different support systems, all of which can offer a 1/4" screw copnnector (which most do). OTOH, I converted all of my various screw, RC2, RC4, and 323 clamps and plates to A-S about five years ago. It was a bit painful at the time (pain in the pocketbook), but I'm glad that I did it. I still use the old RC2 clamps and plates for lighting and misc. support gizmos. I had a Manfrotto 502HD fluid head for a couple of years (with a RRS clamp on its rail), but I recently sold it, because I never used it.
Don't get me wrong, Edelkrone makes a lot of super cool and unique stuff. I bought a Pocket Stand last September. I'm still trying to figure out what do use it for.
