Surfron was in town and Friday morning we had planed a shoot at Nickerson Beach for months. The forecast was rain all day yet looking at the radar/satellite image the night before it appeared to me that the cold front that was forecast to stall over NYC had started to move. We agreed to check with each other in the morning and decide if we head out to the beach or meet up for breakfast. It was still raining when we woke up yet the front had mostly cleared the area. We waited for the rain to stop and then drove to the beach. This resulted in our driving back into the storm and waited it out which took about 30 minutes in the parking lot providing a great time to chat.
The dark skies created an unusual background and I used it for this set of photos of the skimmers in the air. There are two family groupings containing about 500 each. 1000 birds in the air all around you is quite a sight and sound.
