p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Canon EOS1 DX problem

I Have the following problem with this camera body

The camera goes dead after 1 shot (camera is set to AI-Servo mode).

I have have tested 3 fully charged batteries, but the camera still shuts down after one shot.

The identical problem occurs with 300 mm v2 and 100-400 v2 lenses.

What could cause this problem? The board?

Perhaps other users with this problem could chime in?

I have not seen this problem but the camera obviously needs to go in for repair. When you do that the technician will need a way to reproduce the problem. When you say it does the same thing "with 300 mm v2 and 100-400 v2 lenses", I'm not sure whether you mean it does this with only those lenses and works as it should with others, or whether you mean that it acts the same way with any lens attached. If it's the latter you can probably send the camera alone. If it's the former you'll probably need to include a lens. You should probably see how the camera acts when making a manual exposure with no lens attached. If it shuts down then just send the camera alone.

Canon repair of 1-series cameras is pretty fast and quite good, with or without CPS membership. Good luck!

Unfortunately,I have developed the exact same problem with my 1Dx,with all of the lenses I have with me right now. Even worse, I have just started a 3 week trip in Namibia. The problem started with my 3rd shot of the trip. I do have another body, but was counting on the 1Dx. Looks like I 'lol be carrying a brick for the next 3 weeks. Even if it does start to work, it is like having a cheating girlfriend. You'll take her back, but can you REALLY trust her again?

Sounds like the same power board failure that I had. At least yours is consistent. Mine was very random, but progressively got worse. Send it in...

Moisture condensation in the body will cause that. Try putting the body in a ziploc bag with a few silica gel pacs for a few days.

No problems like that on mine at all. Did you check the camera's battery, it may need to be replaced. Check that first if not it sounds like a CPS service trip is needed.

Not sure what the first one is - I can't find a reference in the parts catalog. The "AE" in it sounds like something to do with the metering, However, the second ("FP") is the power board that has failed in every 1Dx that I've seen at one point or another. And, it's the primary cause of the occasional lockup becoming no power issue as well as the random power drain (if the drain was not caused by a nasty firmware bug, as it was in mine).
