I normally don't take my Canon gear out except for assignments, I like to travel lighter with a Pentax K3 kit when I am just taking a short trip, but as I finally got a Canon 5DSr I wanted to give it a bit of a workout. Armed with the 24-70 F4 IS, the 70-200 F4 IS and a tripod, I set out to test the resolution with shots with a lot of detail.
Shot notes:
Daybreak was shot from the apartment balcony. Tripod, ISO 100, 1/5 sec @ F13, lens at 200MM
Ventnor Bayside, ISO 640, 1/200 sec @ F11, handheld IS on, lens at 200MM
Margate bayside sunset, ISO 1250, 1/5 sec @ F4, lens at 24MM, I rested the camera on a post.
Garden bird bath, ISO 125, 1/160 sec @ f4, lens at 38MM, handheld
Coffee shop, ISO 100, 1/200 sec @ F8, lens at 24MM, handheld
What I quickly learned is that even the slightest error in focus will show at 100% view. That said, when focus is spot on, the resolution is amazing and compares well with my medium format kit. There was a bit of atmospheric haze in the long shots as the weather wasn't pristine, but I didn't find that softness objectionable.
