p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Minolta MD 35-135 on A7 series

Has anyone tried using one of these on the A7? I have the MD 35-70/3.5 macro which is really excellent, right into the corners. I also have the rare 28-85 MD and it's pretty good but falls down at the extremities compared with the 35-70. Since the latter formed the basis for the Leica R 35-70/3.5 this is not surprising I suppose. However, both these lenses are short throw and I am thinking about the 35-135/3.5-4.5 MD for use with the A7RII I have just acquired and it would be interesting to hear if anyone got any experience with this combination or just with the lens. I have a late MD 135/2.8, which is also excellent but it would be nice to have a standard zoom with a decent range for travelling. Pity this hasn't been addressed yet by Sony but it seems everyone hankers for wider than 35mm at the wide end these days and that presumably makes for longer, heavier and more difficult to design lenses. Pity, because 35-135 is probably a better focal length range for travel than 24-105.

No one playing?

I haven't tried it, but I think you might find the MD 35-135 rather nose heavy on the A7rII at over 500g (18oz) + adapter. I tried the OM 35-105 (470g 16 ½ oz) on my A7 and that was my feeling. It wasn't a comfortable balance, unlike the MD 35-70 which I love on the A7.

I've never used 35-135 MD but I liked the 50, 35/2.8, & 70-210/4 MD, so I would think it would be good.

I used to use a beat up Tamron 35-135 with 67mm filter, if I wasn't really going out to shoot, but wanted to take something along. If you look at the old MP lens test results on adaptall-2.org, the newer 58mm filter did better.

I got a nicer one, cosmetically, but the beat up one performed better, it seemed. I think it was a later serial number. Neither is as compact as the 35-105 OM, which I haven't used much, but it seems really good quality, and is also worth a look.

35-135 seemed like as much zoom range as you could get without getting a superzoom and having a loss in quality.
