The Green Herons, are my favorite, mostly because of their wide versatility in many areas.

These little guys can be shy but very curious, eat a grasshopper or dragonfly one minute then turn around and pickup a rather large fish(for its size). Their necks can be super long, but then small. They are just great fun to watch and once they warm up to you I have had no problem with photographing them within 10 or so feet.

I found this one at a local spot I go to, during the summer months I see a few out there, and they sometimes hang out close to the road, if I am lucky I can find a spot to sit down by the
bank and get a few shots.

A great set Matthew. You have good light, and the BGs are nicely blurred. 3, 4, and 7 stand out ~ Ron

Love these. Looks like maybe a small pickerel? The green herons near me have proven to be quite skittish, but they are always a treat to see.

They certainly are quite the characters and so much fun to photograph. Nice shots of this guy with a relatively large fish.
