p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Lightroom issue - very slow importing

So I've been dealing with a Lightroom problem for a while now and it's driving me crazy. I am getting very very slow importing for some reason.

It is not card related. I use very fast cards (xqd and super fast CF cards) and the fast Lexar CF/SD USB 3 reader. They download extremely fast to my hard drive directly, or by photomechanic. Even when they are on my hard drive and I try to import them to lightroom (or syncing a folder), they are extremely slow to import into a catalog. Im not talking about previews either, I can have it set to minimul and it's a very slow process.

For instance a importing 2000 photos from a wedding might take an hour. Once imported everything works fine.

I'm using the latest version of Lightroom CC.

Any ideas?

what about your designated cache for light room? May be time to clear it out. Is it on a spinning disk? Consider a SSD for it. Also, how large is your catalog? Maybe time to start a new one. Where is your catalog being stored? Is that drive full? If it is not on a SSD, it should be.

New catalogs every wedding on SSD, images on external drives at the moment (but does the same thing even if they are on SSD's). Cache is on SSD too.

Lightroom CC is such a shitty piece of shit TBH. It's not optimized at all, on PC or OS X, I have both.

If you make a new catalog for each wedding, use a SSD and have plenty of RAM. One hour for 2000 photos sounds right for export, probably longer, but import? With minimal and no smart preview generation?

Did you try uninstalling Lightroom, wiping all the caches clean, then re-installing?

Try going to lightroom > preferences > performance: and uncheck "use graphics processor."
Then shut down and reopen lightroom.

It clears up a lot of the speed issues with the new LR
I'm told the new one needs a lot of coding cleaned up :/

Very often, simply deleting the preference file will correct the problem. Google it.

Tried clearing the preferences the other day. Didn't help. Also had unchecked the graphics processor a while back as I have a Radeon card that wasn't 100% compatible. I had to turn back the graphics card driver to an older version and now that works fine.

Going to reinstall today.

Reinstalled, deleted preferences again... nada. Still takes forever. I can export faster than import.

test your SD performance, what speed is it actually operating at?

I had a San Disk Extreme Pro fail where it starting read/writing at ~30kb/sec. I was able to get it RMA'd, but Amazon just replaced it for me instead.

Edit: Read further, unsure why the import is slow within LR.
