So this was a total fluke/surprise photo opp!

After a great evening of playing guitar and working on our music I was standing on my deck seeing off my best friend and fellow musician around 2am and noticed a green glow in the sky. The view from my deck is heavily blocked by trees so based on how much green I was seeing I knew things were happening. I grabbed my gear and headed out for a bit of shooting. The aurora was quite spectacular and I spent more time just watching the aurora than shooting it. One of the better shows I've witnessed. Here is panorama when things were most active.

Thanks for looking!

Hey Scott!

That is really special, it looks like a magnetic field coming from trees...
Love it!

Spectacular shot !

One Q though, I thought the aurora was moving all the time ? If you took several 15 second shots then is this what you were actually seeing or it an 'expanded' view of reality due to the combined shots ?

I am thinking since 'epic' is nominated (by myself) as most overused word of 2014/2015 I am deciding on the next word to overuse.

Here are 3 candidates:
1. Paragon
2. Monumental
3. Colossal

Thank you! Some aurora can be just more of a soft very slow moving glow and sometimes it can literally be dancing across the skies. Even get what I call "green snakes" swimming in the stars. This one was almost bit of all of that. This 180 degree view panorama very closely represents what I saw. The aurora had more refined edges in reality but to achieve that means really cranking up the ISO.

Here is a shot pointing straight up when the aurora was very active.
