p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · 5D3 anomaly

Just had a strange thing happen. OK, shooting in P, large fine jpegs, and I hd two images show up on the screen, in a row, that were pink. I checked the info, and they do not show as raw+jpeg, which was my first thought.

On the road, so it will be some time before I can post.

Any thoughts?

I've never used P or jpegs, but was the lighting a gas discharge type? I don't think the 5D III had that anti-flicker timing option that some new cameras have.
Also check the files at home for other defects as the memory card may be defective. I would not use that card any further until you are sure it is OK.

This appeared on the body display or computer monitor, or both?

The 5Ds files are large, so most likely it is a read/write error. Years ago I had pink images on uploads to my computer and the error occurred during the upload. In that case the images appeared fine on the camera display, so I deleted the images on the computer and uploaded them again and all came out fine.

At another time some images on the CF card were defective in one way or the other and it was the card that was defective/too slow. Replaced the card and it didn't happen again.

I think it's cause you shot in program mode and used jpegs. That's a big no no. Lol

I've seen the same thing... Corrupt image, it happens.... I formatted the card and it's not happened again. I get these every 75,000 or so.... I'm a sports guy, all Jpeg, all the time.... don't have time or drive space for raws....

OK, so corrupted image. I guess I can live with it every 75K or so. That's once a year or so, and unless it is Elvis or a UFO, no biggie.

For years my first step before going out on a shoot is to re-format the card in the camera. I always start from a fresh known point. Haven't had a problem ...yet!

OK, first, my apologies for resurrecting an old post. But, I ran into the problem again today, and did a full, low-level format of the card in question, just to be sure. That jogged my memory, so I went and found the photos in question.

Basically, walking through St. Petersburg (Russia, not Florida) and everything is fine. then the first photo happens. i take the second 35 seconds alter, after a couple of quick checks of settings and a test shot of the pavement.

What I find curious is this; the original problem was a pink photo. today's error was a blue photo. What's next, green?

What the frak?

Everything is nrormal? This isn't right.
