p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Chased out of the park by the storm...

I had very grand plans, for this past Sunday, to capture a great monsoon sunset with some fantastic cacti front and center. I hiked out a short ways into Catalina State Park and quickly realized my plan was shot. The storms weren't cooperating. I changed up my plan and tried to get some dramatic clouds behind the cacti, knowing I'd be going B&W (or at least monotone/duotone), but I was pretty quickly chased out of the park as a decent sized storm (with decent sized lightning) rolled over the mountains. Here are a few shots that I managed to get:

Hey Dave,

I really like the composition in #1, it's balanced and more interesting than#2 I would say. But the toning doesn't work for me. I think a straight B&W would work best here.

It's a good thing you were able to get these before the storm chased you out.

Thanks Jim. You always have good feedback. When I was first processing this I tried pure B&W and found it a bit cold. Maybe I'll have to go back and take another look. At the time I was bummed I didn't get a dramatic monsoon sunset so maybe that drove me to prefer warmer tones. Who knows. It's funny how stepping back and revisiting a shot can give you a whole new perspective. Thanks for the feedback.
