p.2 #1 · p.2 #1 · Baby Bird Extravaganza Quiz...Now with Adult matching

Tomorrow morning I will post 16 shots of the adult birds for those that prefer matching games. Why 16 and not 17 you ask? Well that is because I actually have no idea what bird #14 is

Well done Chuck. You are in 1st place for sure. I was wondering if 14 might be Common yellowthroat but as I said I have no idea as didn't see the parent. Therefore I will award you correct for Common Yellowthroat. You still have 4 incorrect and one that I think is incorrect but could be right as I only caught a brief glimpse of the parent and I think I saw what it was but could be wrong.

Anyways so far I award you 12 points. Top showing so far!!

Are you SURE you were not a Physics instructor at Santa Rosa Junior College that I had 40+ years ago?

Thanks, Geoff. I'm a little shaky on the grebes and the Mallard. The Rough-winged Swallow guess was a coin toss between that and Tree Swallow. The Yellowthroat is a slam dunk because the creek out front is loaded with fledgelings and the look exactly like yours. The Am. Tree Sparrow could easily be a White-crowned Sparrow....or even a Golden-crowned.
But I'm happy with 12. You did good getting great shots of so many different species.

Okay, so now the game will take a twist suggested by a poster and I will post the 17 adult birds....this should allow an easy match for the most part...still there is grebe sorting to do and the two ducks are a little tricky...

1) Red-necked Grebe-Eared Grebe?
2) American Coot
3) Mallard-Green-winged Teal
4) Gadwall-Still think this is a Gadwall and not an American Wigeon
5) Northern Shoveler
6) Bonapart"s Gull
7) Trumpeter Swan
8) Horned Grebe
9) Mountain Bluebird
10) Song Sparrow
11) Ruddy Duck
12) Barn Swallow
13) American Tree Sparrow-Should have gone with my gut and said White-crowned Sparrow
14) Common Yellowthroat-Having second thoughts. I think this too is a Yellow Warbler based on the short tail and the yellow showing in the tail feathers. Sorry Geoff.
15) Yellow Warbler
16) Red-winged Blackbird
17) Northern Rough-winged Swallow-Damn coin.

Wow, I've never seen most of those. I'm wishing I lived in Canada. But I'm sure I'll change my mind when Jim Colwell starts posting all those shots with mountains of snow on his street this winter.
