Did you google it?

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-recovery

Usually if you bought a brand name computer, you should be able to go to their site and find a recovery cd download. This would be important if you can't find the windows sticker with the hex code on your device.

My ASUS does not have one and to get one will be a couple of weeks plus $$. Yes, I googled it too but could not find the iso that used to be readily available.

When I used to buy brand name PCs, they always came with the windows sticker and an OS disc. Now I notice you get neither. That's disappointing.

I have the sticker, just not the OS. It is disappointing.

Well if you have the windows sticker with your activation code, then use the link I provided above and download your own iso! You should be set, but will need your drivers from the manufacturer, of course.

The link that you provided only works if you bought a standalone copy of Windows. Mine is OEM, so it won't work. But thanks.

What I need is a copy of the ISO file that was available on Digital River.

If you bought the ASUS new, you might still be able to get a set of recovery disks from them. I imagine they would charge something minimal for that, but don't quote me. OTOH, if you bought it used, you may be out of luck pursuing that avenue.

All indications seem to be that an online copy of the ISO is no longer available, see here and here.

That said, since you have the license sticker, you're an authorized user and if a recovery disk is available from the ASUS, they shouldn't have any problem providing you with one as implied above.

Question: are you using the oem hard drive and is the recovery partition still in intact on it? If so, see that second link above on how you can access it.

GLWYS (search).

No.

OEM / Retail are determined by the serial.

You just need an ISO for your version Home/Pro/Ult/Ent

Not entirely true - I rebuilt my FIL's computer with my OEM disk and his legitimate serial and it wouldn't activate. Microsoft must be doing something with OEM software to prevent piracy, I guess, but it worked out to be a pretty big pain in the butt.

I sent him (cbbr) a serial number to an unused OEM disk that I have with the understanding that if it worked he would send me a check. He PMed me that it wouldn't work with his disk. I'm in the processing of selling the disk and serial number to another member, I hope they work. If not I'll refund his money

You could try torrenting an official image. Microsoft used to offer them on their website but for some reason stopped.
