p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Options to LR 5's pathetic Clone/Heal Tool

This very clumsy tool (and lack of a powerful Blur tool) has driven me mad for years after switching from Aperture 3 with it's excellent cloner and blur tool. Still today, 5 years on, the A3 clone tool blows the LR one away. Even Bibble 5's implementation was better. Why can't Adobe get this right - or is specifically designed to drive us to PS ?

Anyone have a suggestion for a solution for a tool (external) or method (in LR) other than PS (I have a version of CS4 laying around somewhere but have never felt the need to go to PS before, having many Topaz, Silver Efex, Colour Efex and Perfect Photo Suite plug-ins which cover my other needs) ?

Thanks !
Kevin

Have you tried Gimp? No idea how that would compare, never used LR, but worth a shot.

Only a few minutes to download and install. 8 bit though

I think Gimp is Windows only Mike and I use Macs exclusively. Thanks for the suggestion though !

Here's the OSX download page:

http://download.gimp.org/pub/gimp/v2.8/osx/

Or you can get there from here, I wouldn't blame you, the windows version of the page above I was like, "is this really it?" Looks iffy. But that's it afaik

http://www.gimp.org/downloads/

If you try it, let me know, I'm thinking about LR at some point, interested in a comparison

Its probably the gimp-2.8.14.dmg file, that's about the right size. 2.8.14 is the latest.

I'm not using LR, but the blur tool in PS (CS6, anyway) isn't all that powerful either. I typically have to blur on a layer and mask when I want any significant localized blurring. For more subtle work, it's "meh" @ okay, I guess.
