Hi all,
As accessible as Arches NP is for me, I never pass up an opportunity for landscape imagery. I was in Canyonlands area sampling a few oil wells early morning this past week, and thought the cloud cover provided some different aesthetics than the bright orange sunrise and sunset glows often experienced on mostly clear days. With that said, took a quick drive into the park to see what I see, and decided between The Tower of Babel or Courthouse Tower. I've been spending a lot of time this year experimenting with different lighting techniques lighting up The Tower of Babel using Alien Bees and light painting with warm gel speedlights, so something different. I chose B&W because lighting was fairly mute and there was some drama / depth with the cloud cover which appeared to frame the feature well (IMHO).
For this image, I decided to bracket with 5 exposures, initial edits in Lightroom 6, then dive into CS6 with some light HDR processing, and conversion into B&W using Silver Efex Pro 2. I was hoping for a little lightning so I could try out my new Ubertronix Strike Finder Pro II, but most of the evening and early morning lightning storms moved on.
