The original source of this is Canon Europe:
http://cpn.canon-europe.com/content/news/eos_5ds_and_5dsr_recommended_lenses.do
The list there is the same as the one at the-digital-picture.com and elsewhere except it has the 70-200mm f/4 IS instead of the old version.
And I quote from the Canon Europe page:
"...rather than bundling the camera with a standard zoom we are running a promotion allowing the customers to select a lens from a selection of recommended lenses to be purchased together with the body at a discount."
So "recommended" has been taken right out of its original context in the various online discussions.
Probably:
- The 50mm f/1.8 STM is absent because they don't want to sell such a cheap lens in a kit with such an expensive camera.
- The 50mm f/1.2 is there because they can't not offer a kit with a 50. (This lens *is* very sharp at certain settings.)
- The 180mm f/3.5 macro, sharp as it is, is absent because there are some restrictions with AF points using recent bodies and they don't want to go explaining that during the sales process or, worse, afterwards. Alternatively, volume levels being so low on this lens, they don't want to deplete stock levels and have to make an unplanned batch.
- The 35mm f/1.4 is sharp after f/4, but since it isn't sharp wide open it's better to sell the punters a 24-70 f/2.8 II.
As for the 16-35 f/2.8 Mk II, maybe so many copies do suck in the corners that they don't want to risk it. I know my copy *is* sharp at f/11.
