I had the 100-400 II lens for some time, but just got the 7D II this weekend.

All were shot at wide open (f/5.6) and ISO-400, I have not done any microadjustment yet. The Osprey picture was heavily "pulled" (shadow lifted) as it was backlit.

So far I am happy with this combo

Yes that combo has been showing some great shots on many sites. All body and lens combo vary but mine only needed +3 which does not make a significant impact. That is probably why you are seeing decent results without it. I might get flamed got this but that to me shows your lens and camera are correctly calibrated by Canon.

I was a little surprised it needed +14 when I added a 1.4 III TC.
