p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Canon 5D Date Resets/Another Problem - possibly related?

Hello,

When I turn on my 5D, occasionally it goes to the date reset page (2005/01/01 is default) which is highly inconvenient, as you can imagine....

Another issue is that, on some days, it takes a little longer (few seconds) for the camera to become functional (AF engaged and LCD working) when turned on -- and sometimes it even requires that I remove/insert CF or the battery to get it working again.

Does anyone know what might be going on? I hope there is a relatively easy fix for these issues -- hopefully they are related...

Thanks!

The seperate date/memory battery. Too drunk atm but someone will elaborate - it's essentially a watch-like battery that stores that stuff.

Replace the backup battery as mentioned above.
There is a thread that may be of use.

As others have indicated, the clock/PRAM battery needs replacing every 5 or 6 years but most of us upgrade before then and never have the pleasure of lost date/time. You, sir, shall experience something most of us have only read about in the manual. I got to replace one in an ancient Mac G4 a few years back.

Thank you for the help.

Then it might be related to the date reset issue but do you think it might also have to do with the second problem (takes longer for camera to become functional sometimes)?

Thanks

Yes, but I don't know for sure. I would think that if the camera has to reset some initial values, or refresh memory every time it is turned on, that it would take longer.

Just replace the memory battery and see.
