p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Fotodiox Kick Liter vs Lastolite Upliters

Okay, I am curious, besides the size difference, has anybody compared the Lastolite upliter/Joe McNally upliter to the Fotodiox kicker lite? The lastolite is 3x4 and the Fotdiox is 20x30 so significant size difference but the price difference is huge. Any thoughts on either one.

Thanks all!

It's hard to say that one has the advantage over the other without knowing what's important to you. The Upliter provides a larger light source while the Fotodiox is smaller and probably more portable. Sometimes you want the light to spread so you shoot through an umbrella and other times you want to feather the light using a softbox and grid. It does appear that the Fotodiox has side panels to limit unwanted light spillage from the side. That may be a plus under certain circumstances. In outdoors situations, probably not, but indoors you may want to limit where the side light is spreading.

Lastolite seems to make decent equipment. I have the Lastolite Trigrip and EZbox and they work well. No experience with Fotodiox, however, they do get good reviews on Amazon.

Think about how you want to use it most - larger light, softer wrap, front light, backdrop light, etc. Hopefully, that will help you decide which direction to go since it appears both products have good reviews.
