I managed to find 4 different Horned Grebe families on Wednesday in two different locations. Each had 4-5 young ones in tow. Here is a selection from my outings.

Beautiful set! Love all of them, but #4 is my favorite of the batch. Grebes have such amazing eyes.

Great set. These babies are so cute, all are great but #3, 5 are my favorites.
Western & Clark's grebes' babies are just starting to appear in Klamath Falls area.

These are great shots of a bird that I've never seen before. One has to wonder what the practicality of the red coloring on the head of the chicks is for. Shot number 3 is my favorite.

Nice set though it looks like you were both DOF and focal length challenged Geoff. The last is my pick

One of my favorite species. I think #3 is the best. You might try selecting just the birds when sharpening, then select inverse and add a little noise reduction to just the background.

What a set, they're all winners in my book. Man you must have been right out there in the water with them, terrific stuff.

The entire colouring of the chicks is over the top. I'm not sure why they have the stripes or the red/pink patches.

Yes the ones shot at 1200mm were on a lake that was very length challenged and those are cropped a lot. The other ones at 600mm were much closer at the Wildlife Preserve moose habitat so being so close did challenge the DOF.

I've never seen Horned chicks in person so the treat of seeing them is a real joy for me! Nice job capturing the family interactions, the feeding shots are priceless!
