don't think there is enough info there to get a good job of it .
I had a quick play
http://dobbie-id.smugmug.com/General/For-fm/i-PMR2Gvf/0/X2/1152600-2-X2.jpg

took into LR and gave it full whack on the DEHAZE slider . then I took a brush to the heart itself and dropped the exposure and played around with the CLARITY and the SHADOW/HIGHLIGHTS - WHITES?BLACKS sliders .

not the best effort but it was only a couple of seconds to do . maybe it puts you in the right direction .

Shoot again and use different angle for lighting plus a polarizing filter.

As Ian said, there is no info there to recover.

That is what I thought. They want me to reshoot a whole bunch of top-down desk shots for a real estate firm but I told them that there was not alot of recover from that area.

Another deft trick: Eliminate reflective props for the reshoot.

Get the book Light Science and Magic, that has extensive instruction on angles and dealing with glare.

On top of a better outcome, you'll probably need to charge more for the added thought and methodology leading up to the shoot. Or reevaluate whether using that kind of image at all and employing subjects and scenes that are trivial to pull off.

The damage has been done but the best result in Lr seems to be with a combination of the following:

1. Vignetting to brighten the non-glare parts

2. Vibrance and saturation to richen the colour in the glare without damaging the rest of the image.

3. The new Dehaze tool in the Effects panel.

4. Basic exposure controls (exposure, shadows, highlights)

If you can just shoot the heart again at the same angle and clone it in in PS, very easy these days

But the way the first shot is lit you are always going to be prone to flare, plus it's overexposed

I would just shoot the heart over and get it right. Drop it in the original in PS. They will never know.
