Try Trout Lake in the UP.
There is an International Dark Sky Park in Headlands, very close to Mackinaw City. Just enter "The Headalnds" in Google Maps.
I shot this photo in Trout Lake. It's not the best Milkyway photo. But, the sky was dark enough for us to see the Milkyway at 3am in the night.
Also, use apps like Stelarium and TPE to check when the Milkyway would be visible.
