Peter,

I was very excited to contribute to your thread on "In praise of older guys", and then I re-read the title.

P.S. congrats on the newish MDP.

Peter, that combo really has some sweet colors, I like the rendering, bokeh and clarity, top-notch, looks like you've found a good pairing!

Jerry, I've had nothing but good experience with the Pipe in combination with 1DMkIIN and 1DsMkII over a number of years.

Hey, Jim, you've got at least one EF lens that fits perfectly the "oldie but goodie" title, perhaps like no other.

Hi, Peter. Your "old guys" thread did get me thinking along those lines...

I just fired up my old 5D and apparently, he still works. His name is Vinnie...

Vinnie and Sauron. Now, that sounds like a worthwhile project.

I think you can not do much better than that with up to date gears, particularly so on lower ISO.

For example, up to ISO 800 my 1DsMkII yields a similar IQ to 1DX.
Furthermore, 200 f/1.8 is as sharp as 200 f/2 IS.......lest we start splitting hairs.

...and find the f/1.8 is sharper.

I just recently picked up the 70-210mm f/4 from one of the members on Fred Miranda. Date code shows it's from September 1987. It's a lot smaller than the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS xD.

I've also had the original 50mm f/1.8, but just recently sold it.

Still shoot the original 5D, and 1DSII on a daily basis. I love some of the older gear.
