In the past I have bought some of the wooden frames at Michael's but I'm looking for an online source that has a little better quality but at a reasonable price. I have been looking at the ones at America Frame but any other suggestions are appreciated.

I was going to suggest Michaels before I rwad your post. I've purchased a couple of very nice frames there. However, these weren't small, Id say around about 18x24...I dont recall exactly, as they were gifts.

Have you ever had them make you a custom frame? Turn around time isn't real fast, but custom frames never are. I really like their Tru Vue "masterpiece" anti-reflective glass.

If these are small(ish) frames, have you considered making your own? Really isnt much to the process other than patience, accuracy, a simple miter box/saw, router, and stain/paint. There's a certain amount of pride that comes with making the frame, that houses the picture(s) you took.

Great site guys! Curious, do you all use glass/museum glass when displaying photos? I know people who use it or don't. Is there a consensus on glass or not?

This is where I got some when I wanted "reasonable" $$$ ... and still nice enough for competition. I went with some simple black profiles (i.e. not fancy "museum quality") for my comp frames. Not one of the BIG GUYS, but a real person that runs a decent business from the few times I've used them. Frames hold up nice and present well for me. High end folks might find them a bit short for their taste though.

It's been a couple years since I needed any more frames (rotating images), but I figure they're still doing fine. Check them out / give 'em a call.

Another vote for frame destination: good people, good service and good prices!

There is no consensus. I generally use regular acrylic, which has much more UV protection than standard framing glass. I have used museum UV cut antireflective glass, but that is expensive.

I use regular glass from the hardware store. Plus they cut it. I'm not sure light bulbs emit a lot of UV, and UV glass is expensive.

Seems like a gallery wanted plexi, probably for liability. But I don't think its archival, since its plastic and off gasses

I've used non reflective glass, kinda meh on it. Didn't always look as good imo and more expensive and harder to get
