First time I tried this combo I think I may have tried it when I first got my 7D II..

That looks really good for being 1120mm f/8 and 1600 ISO. No EV comp? I take it the lighting was most excellent. Was this handheld?

I didn't think it was, but would've commended you greatly if it had been. That 800 doesn't have IS, correct?

Sharp as can be so great job for IQ. for me a bit more shadow would make the bird look more dimensional. Also consider cropping out the bright intrusion from the top of the frame. This setup will get you many more opportunities for little birds as you clearly have it under control Rod.

Is there any chance you can show comparisons between the 7D II and the 5DsR?

Sorry I didn't even know what a 5DsR was until I looked it up.

ATM there are 13 posts on the first Canon page with 5Ds or 5DsR in the title and two with 7D II.

Since the Canon long tele lenses don't zoom, it can be challenging to fill the frame and not waste pixels or be too close, depending on how the animal moves. I was thinking that the 5DsR might be useful. For example with an 800 mm lens, the FF image is 50MP and the 20MP crop is equivalent to 1120 of the 7D II. One is essentially getting an 800-1120 zoom. Likewise a 500 mm lens is like a 500-800 zoom, assuming 20MP quality similar to the 7D II is acceptable at the long end. In between the IQ would be better than the 20MP.

I think you tried it before too Rod, and got fantastic results then too. Love the feather detail.
