p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Good GPS logger/tracker for Android?

Until recently I've used a handheld GPS device to track my travels, and then used the info to tag photos from my camera (5D2, doesn't have GPS). But I now have a good Android smartphone so I think I'd rather use that instead.

All I care about is a decent UI and the ability to accurately generate a file I can use to tag my photos. I am fine spending a few bucks on this.

The tool I have used in the past on my PC for tagging the actual photos is GeoSetter.

Rather than sifting through the many options on the Play Store I thought I'd poll the collective wisdom here since I figure I am not the first to try to do this. Thanks.

ETA: Product I'm looking at right now: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.flashlight.ultra.gps.logger&hl=en

I use backcountry navigator pro

i'm able to import/export kml files to locations. Actively used it in Bisti to hike at night. Doesn't suck too much battery.

Oh, that includes topo maps also. That could be super useful.

But does it log position at regular intervals? I don't want to have to hit a waypoint every time I take a shot. The manual is unclear. It doesn't seem to focus on logging as much as maps.

Thanks Sunny.

I think this is what you're looking for http://support.crittermap.com/entries/22126492-Navigation-Waypoints-and-Tracks

http://support.crittermap.com/entries/23452096-Recording-a-Track

Use offline topo maps and GPS on hiking trails without cell service. The GPS in your Android phone can get its position from GPS satellites, and you don’t have to rely on your data plan to get maps. Have more fun and safe GPS navigation in the backcountry.
Use as a geocaching navigator by getting a pocket query as GPX.

Besides geocaching, use GPS for recording tracks and GPS waypoints on your trip, all the while tracking your GPS quest on topographic maps. It may replace your Garmin handheld GPS.

I'm currently using this to geotag photos and found it works quite well:

http://gps4cam.com/

It allows you to select how often to update/record position so you can refine how accurately your photos will be tagged. I think it costs a dollar or two - well worth the cost. Only problem I've had is forgetting to start the app when I go on a trek.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I ended up with a couple of different cool tools that will get the job done.

I decided I liked Gaia best for the topo maps and it has track recording. I am also going to use a simpler tool when I only want to track.
