A little over 2lbs and 82mm filter size. It ain't small.
This is true. If weight (and size) is important, you certainly have better options. My 35/1.4 is only 200 grams. And the RX1 is only around 600 with accessories. I value a compact and lightweight setup for things such as day-to-day images, projects and travel.
But compact/lightweight isn't everything to everyone all the time. Would I use this lens? I'm happy with what I use so it's not for me, but I'm sure many will be willing to at least try it and see if they can live with the compromises if the payoff is big enough for them on a personal level.
I personally doubt the size/weight will be the only compromise compared to primes (I wouldn't expect rendering or character to be too great), but again it depends on what does it for you personally, and I do admire Sigma for upping their game over recent years, both in terms of quality and innovation.
