First thing I attempted was to create a color profile. Get a message insufficient memory. This is with 16GB or ram. Software is current. I have a support request in to X-rite.

I also tried to run a tight crop version. I suspect it just does not recognize the camera.

is it a 32bit program? If it is it will really most likely be restricted to its own 2gb memory space. Possibly 3gb. having 16gb ram wont help it.

Not sure, but it works fine with 5D3 files. Anyway, the cropped file ought to have been small enough to run,

Same thing happens with D800/E raws. It's a filesize limitation with xrite's plugin. Try converting it to a compressed DNG and using that as your profile input file.

How do you save compressed? I tried cropping and reducing size and saving 8 bit. All this does is reduce the file from 52 to 44mb. I did not find a compressed option.

I'm not in front of my system but there should be an option in the DNG converter. Another option is to shoot the target in APS-C crop mode, assuming the 5DS added that feature.

Hey, after I wrote the last, I changed to sRAW and got my profile. It was worth it too as it is a noticeable difference from Adobe standard.

Now I will go make a shade version.

DNG can be selected as output from ACR/LR. I think even with options (place where you select if you want TIFF/JPG etc.).

From Adobe standard everything is noticable difference, usually for the better.

I'm not sure generating a profile from sRAW will yield optimal results, based on how the data is encoded for that format. I just opened up my DNG converter and found the compression options when you hit the "Change Preferences" button - you can both change the compression and the dimensions of the resulting DNG.

my dng converter is ACR CC. I don't see anything in preferences to compress it. Not sure why sRAW will not work.

sRAW will work but it's not really raw; it's an intermediate encoded form of the data that's already been demosaiced and this may affect the quality of the generated color profile. You can download the standalone DNG converter here: Windows and Mac.

Ok, I used this converter and was able to use the uncompressed file. Using lossy did not work.

Ok, it worked once, now it won't. If I select lossy compression, it says not a valid DNG when I try to load it into Passport.

The one time it worked with full uncompressed DNG, it was not able to find the the color checker but did when I selected the corners. But now it is back to the out of memory issue.

The preferences are lossy compression, preserve file size, or change file size or turn lossy off. It appears that lossy with preserve pixel count makes a small enough file, but it does not look like a valid file to Passport. With lossy turned off, it is too large.

How about if you reduce the dimensions during the DNG conversion while leaving it uncompressed. That's in the same options dialog as the compression.

How about using Adobe's DNG Profile Editor instead of the propriety X-Rite software?

Ok, I Googled it and found the win version, downloading now. Waste of time to try to find it at the Adobe site.

However, this is a brute force editor, that requires you to decide what changes to make rather than an automated system like Passport. With my poor color vision it would be a waste of time to try.

I will keep working on Passport.

Ok, just tried Passport again with a full size dng and it worked. I made sure I had nothing else running on my computer. It failed to find the target, but that ok because you can manual mark the edges.

Now I have a color profile I can trust.
