Possibly a monochrome treatment for my Ordinary Things series.

Possibly a contender for the Weekly Assignment as well.

I like this for many reasons - the comp, the processing, the sharpness. What I really like is how you've got this great framing agent in the fingers that have a tone that *should* draw attention from the action, but the brightness in the center of the tomato and lines of the knife slam you back into it.

Only minor nit would be the object between the fingers and perhaps slightly more even toning on the knife.

Good one, Karen!

Thanks, Jeff. The object between the fingers is a wedding ring. The unevenness of the knife toning is the reflection in the knife of the checker pattern cutting board. I'd say the color version it's a bit more clear. Of course, whether to be faithful to the subject or to make it like perhaps it ought to have been is always an issue to ponder.

I figured as much! It's hardly noticeable.

I love me some mono, but I am kinda curious at the color. Something about that red tomato, gray steel and brown (?) counter/cutting board seem like they could be nice together.

Sliced so thin as to be transparent, Bet that was not on purpose, but it catches the eye.

Actually, I tried to slice thinly because it's a sign of a sharp knife, as inspired by the WA topic. The tricky part was to align things, press the shutter in timer mode, dash around the kitchen island, grab the knife and tomato and start slicing. Yes, it took a few tries.

Here's an early one that didn't make the cut...bada-boom! :

IDK ... processing strikes me as a bit heavy handed. That, or you might want to play with the channels (i.e. red) to get some additional distinction.

I think you've got a better rendering in you that's yet to come out & play.

Hey, I resisted leaving the tomato red whilst converting the rest to B & W.

Plainer conversion version:

Can we meet in the middle? The original has more draw, the rework has more appeal.

I very much like the original. The rework is a bit flatter.
BW was the right choice.
Good luck with the WA Karen.

+1 at mono being the right call. Too much goodness and I think the color detracts some.

A few tweaks for the color.

Glad you didn't get caught up in the action too much, just to find out "first hand" just how sharp it really is.

Thanks, guys.

Oh, knives cut. That's what they do. Oddly, at least up to a point, sorry for another knife pun, a sharper knife is less likely to cut me. I discovered the limit some years ago when I bought a ceramic knife which was too sharp.

I kinda dig that one. Something about how it worked out with the vines @ both clear image & kaleidoscopic.

Thanks Rusty. Creating seamless textures is my side hobby and do appreciate the feedback on that as well as the wormhole version.

lol; didn't mean to take away from your thread Karen. Back to your image. The color one looks delicious. Especially as a topper for a good burger. Lycopenes are indeed good for you.

Have you considered submitting them for fabric patterns?

No; I know if I paid for Deviant, that I could sell, but I just give my patterns for anyone that may find a use for them. Though for the particular group I belong to, I'm the lead submitter, I really only create maybe, at most 10 to 12 patterns/ year and only when it whims me to do so. lol

Again, retouching and computer art is a hobby for me; don't think I could even dream to be able to make a living off my insanity Rusty.
