You really think so? I haven't read much about either, since I can't afford either.
From my first week of testing (I own both), I think the 100-400II +1.4TCIII is equal in IQ to the 150-600C. The IS on the Canon is much more stable and works better. The Sigma image still "floats" a bit in the VF with IS engaged. The AF of the 100-400 bare lens is better and tracks better than the Sigma. The 100-400II +1.4TCIII AF is probably about equal to the Sigma. The IQ of the bare 100-400 is a bit better than the Sigma and you gain a stop of light because the Sigma benefits a lot from stopping down to f/8 so I look at it as an f/8 lens instead of a f/6.3 lens.
The two reasons to buy the Sigma over the 100-400II + 1.4TCIII is the price and that you get to use all the AF points. The only reason I'm keeping the Sigma is the use of the AF points at 600mm f/8 (f/6.3). Otherwise I would have returned it because I like using the 100-400 +1.4TCIII more except when I'm close enough to subjects and need to shift my focus point off centre.
One other thing is the Sigma + 1.4TCIII actually provides very good IQ at 840mm f/11 on 1DX and 1D4. On 7D2 I'm still having problems getting many sharp images probably because of f/11 forcing me to use too slow a SS for that pixel density and focal length or having to use too high an ISO on the 7D2.
