Depending on the workload it can make a big difference.
Slide speed and reading depth (for lift off) make a big difference for powerusers and gamers.

Got this one and it works wonderfully. It's so large I was able to cut it down to be used at two work stations.

Get rid of your magic mouse (which aside from the gestures is pretty terrible) and just get a decent gaming mouse. I've had the Logitech MX518 for years, and it's waaaay smoother for retouching and such.

Thanks! The Magic mouse is now working really well with the new mousepad and it was less than a ten dollar fix.
