p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Nettle-Climbing Carabid

Some carabid ground beetles climb vegetation. This one was resting across the leaf bases of a stinging nettle in the woods at a local nature reserve. Eventually, it hung head downwards and dropped vertically before I could get a further shot.

I seem to have been fairly lucky, with reflections remaining fairly restrained under twin flash lighting.

Thanks. The horizontal row of spines, just below the centre of the frame, had me guessing for a time but they are on the tibia of the raised second leg.

Thanks. Although the aperture set here is similar to that for the aphids the effective aperture is up to seven time larger, with diffraction not significant.
