Ok, I have seen Morris and others posting some great shots with the Sigma 150-600mm but I could not find a thread dedicated to this lens. So I thought we can start one.

Please post your pictures with Sigma 150-600mm on your Nikon body. It can be either Sports or Contemporary version but in your post please do specify which one you used.

Having been very busy with a newborn, today was actually the first time I got a chance to play a bit with our Sigma 150-600 Sports. Here are a couple of shots I took at San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary in Irvine, CA.

1.

  NIKON D4    150.0-600.0 mm f/5.0-6.3 lens    600mm    f/11.0    1/1000s    800 ISO    +0.7 EV

2.

  NIKON D4    150.0-600.0 mm f/5.0-6.3 lens    600mm    f/8.0    1/1000s    800 ISO    +0.7 EV

3.

  NIKON D4    150.0-600.0 mm f/5.0-6.3 lens    600mm    f/8.0    1/1250s    800 ISO    +0.3 EV

4.

  NIKON D4    150.0-600.0 mm f/5.0-6.3 lens    600mm    f/8.0    1/1250s    800 ISO    +0.3 EV

5.

  NIKON D4    150.0-600.0 mm f/5.0-6.3 lens    300mm    f/8.0    1/2500s    800 ISO    +0.3 EV

Good idea to start this kind of thread, except that it may be premature. I don't believe the Contemporary version for Nikon is available yet. At least not in the states?

Well, I wasn't sure whether or not the C has started shipping in the states yet, but maybe we can start with the S for now

Only the Contemporary version is shipping in the USA at this time. Only functional difference will be less flare when shooting toward the sun with the Sports version which might be helpful with wildlife photography. Most photos will not be in lighting or with subjects where there will be a discernible difference between the two lenses, not unlike the Nikon 70-200mm f2.8 VR I and VR II lenses.

Sports version weighs 9 ounces less but both models will require the use of a monopod or tripod at their weights.

The Sports is already longer available (perhaps out of stock) and the Contemporary just started shipping. Typo?
There are more differences between the lenses. The Sports is sealed, has a more complex design and has better (arguable) optics (better in the corners and less vignetting) and probably some more. I'm not sure if it's worth the price difference.

The Sigma Sport version weighs 101 oz, the Contemporary 68 oz, the Nikon PF weighs 27 oz add 3-4 ounces with a TC. For me both Sigmas would be predominantly tripod or monopod dependent, but I assume most guys can handhold the Sigma Contemporary. There are optical differences between both Sigmas, and according to one site the Contemporary is very slightly better throughout most of the range. Too early to tell.

I rented a Sigma 150-600 Sport this past weekend to shoot the last US Women's National Team game before the Women's World Cup and to say that I'm pleased with the results would be an understatement. Unfortunately I didn't get to test it in my usual soccer setting (an evening game with fairly poor lighting) but for use in the daytime it performed well. Obviously, slightly slower focus than my usual lens (70-200 2.8) but the reach gained made up for it, at least in this particular game.

Just realized there had already been a thread created earlier for this lens that I had missed:
http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1347280

Would be nice if Fred could merge the two threads.... But in any case, please consider this thread closed and go ahead and post your samples in the other thread so all samples are posted in a single thread moving forward.

Thanks...
