These Banded Demoiselles were shot among stinging nettles and other (ca waist high) wild vegetation in bright overcast, windy conditions. All images have been cropped for composition. They are from two sessions at f5.6 ISO 400 and f10 ISO 800, respectively.

EM-1 (aperture priority), Olympus 4/3 ED 70-300mm at 300mm, daylight, hand-held, AF used.

First the females.

Now the males. The dark band of pigment across the wings, leaving the tip and most of the basal half clear, gives the species its common name.

A nice set Harold Focus on the eyes does seem to be a bit iffy though ~ Ron

Thanks, Ron.

Yes, I thought it worth including them as the bodies are so showy. This is what I don't like about AF, all heads having been confirmed as in focus before I pressed the button. That also applied to others which are less good.

Thanks, Brian.

It is rare to see these in our garden, although we get plenty of reds and blues. These showy species are to be found close to, or over, water.

Thanks, Tim.

What a still shot can't capture is the effect of the dark bands on the fluttering wings of the males when in flight.
