p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Thunderbirds

I photographed the the US Air Force Thunderbirds performance at the New York Air Show (Beth Page Air Show) at Jones Beach on Sunday. The haze was about the worst I've dealt with having photographed this fun event for may years.

Nice set Morris. You made the best of a tough shooting situation. I was considering going again on Sunday but 3 days in a row would have been too much.

Nice set Morris. I watched the Thunderbirds about 3 weeks ago and the Blue Angels 2 weeks ago. How is the AF tracking of the Sigma?
TFS.

I'm curious about the AF tracking speed as well.

Thank you Douglas,

I've had no problem tracking terns coming at me or away from me and the same with the aircraft. The camera is a factor as well and the combination dose the job.

AWESOME shots Morris! I need to get myself a longer tele. The last time I was at the airshow at Jones Beach I had my 70-200 on a 1D MK II. Definitely not long enough at all

Thank you Chris,

I used to shoot the show with my 80-400 and that was a good range. Having 600mm increased my opportunities yet 150 is a bit long when photographing the high speed crosses as I stand right at waters edge. Possibly I'll bring a second body and shorter lens though I'm already carrying enough and it's usually a long walk that day.

Agree, Morris. While having 600mm at your disposal is great, 150mm on a cropped body may be difficult at times (too long) if you want to capture a formation showing vapor trails like this:
