p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Nikon CLS Commander Remote Wireless Flash problem

I'm using Nikon CLS Commander Remote Wireless Flash, mainly using the pop up flash to trigger an SB910 remotely. It works great but I'm getting a small, tiny light in the sitter's pupil and I think it's from the trigger flash. I'm bouncing the Sb910 on the wall and shielding the light from the subject. I've also instructed the camera not to use the pop up flash, so it's only used as a preflash for exposure reading. Is this normal? I know I can easily correct this in lightroom but would like to not have to go doing this for every shot.

You can see it in the baby's pupil if you look closely. A small tiny dot of white light.

The preflash doesn't show up in most situations, but for sensitive compositions like this you want this gizmo.

It is also used to trigger the off-camera flash, and as you have found, it can sometimes show up - mostly in reflections. Yes, it's normal.

Thanks for your input Neddie and Kaplah.
Maybe I should design a new gizmo to shield the preflash... could make a few bucks

If you have a piece of exposed negative film around, it works perfectly with a little piece of gaffers tape. It blocks the visible, but not the IR.

You can also buy IR gel strips at B&H. Only pass IR light.

This is normal. Don't bother with the gels. Easy enough to just photoshop out the small preflash.
