p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Anyone shoot with both 1Dx and 5D III?

What's your experience and opinion in high iso capability betwen 3200 - 6400 in both 1Dx and 5DIII?

I know there's a lot of reviews on internet about both cameras, especially on high ISO, but i still prefer your expertise and experience in shooting at the wedding. I've recently shoot a lot in church, and i need to use between iso 3200 to 6400 (no flash). So i need to upgrade either 1Dx or 5DIII.

Thanks a lot.

What does the 1Dx offer you that a 5D3 wouldn't?

You should be fine with either camera body but frankly the 1Dx is overkill for wedding work. The 5D3 will work just fine and have acceptable image quality at those ISO levels as long as you are exposing correctly.

I shoot with and edit wedding for a shooter who runs with a 1DX as his primary body.
I run with a 5DmkIII

My observations editing multi-camera body's at the same events.
Event type: Indian weddings.

The 1Dx has about 0.5-1 stop better - cleaner files over the 5DmkIII.
The colors are pretty close to each other ... I would consider brother and sister type analogy.

The 5DmkII is a distant muddy cousin when the iso gets above 2500. Okay, 1600 can be crappy when it is an underexposed image and trying to recover.

More latitude in correction with 1DX over the 5DmkIII somewhere between 1/2 to a stop depending on situation.

Depending on how you shoot and your philosophy with regards to business as it pertains to equipment....
For this shooters business and situation in an Indian event ... the 1DX makes sense.

The AF point linked exposure is a good feature. Plus the fast AF itself can save a shooter in unforeseen moments.

I use to laugh and believed the 1DX was overkill.
But no more.

We have 3 5DIIIs and a 1DX. While I agree that 5DIII is more than enough for a wedding camera, the 1DX does have its advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages
- Slightly cleaner. Not a stop, but 6400 does look cleaner. This is also a result of more accurate metering. Mute if you shoot M 100%.
- Buffer is amazing when shooting high action moments.
- Servo is more accurate.
- Files do seem slightly more punchy out of camera.
- Auto WB is almost perfect.

Disadvantages
- Heavy & large. Love the 5DIII w/35 without a grip when shooting prep or editorial. Less questions about the huge camera.
- Cost. I'd rather have two 5DIIIs over one 1DX.

I wouldn't buy it for its ISO or focusing advantages. While the 1DX is better in most categories, its not enough to really justify the cost/size.

Question.... Why do shooters rolling canon gear think the 1DX is too much camera for weddings?
While nikon shooters will roll with D4 all day long?

Granted the D750 is a great weapon to have and is out knocking down weddings.

I just find the point of views held by both camps are interesting.
Granted this a general statement.

Basically .... Canon: no way use a 1DX attitude.
Nikon ... Will roll with a D4/D810/D750 ... with no stigma attached.

I suppose for me it comes down to value and features needed for a typical wedding shoot. I'd would rather have two 5D3's then one 1Dx. Hard to justify the latter when redundancy is a top priority.
