Rescued this newly emerged darter dragonfly again from my small filter tank containing the main pond pump.
Placed it on a bonsai acer at the edge of the pond to fully dry out. It flew off about an hour later.
All shots Tamron 90 natural light.

An excellent set. I think it is a female of Sympetrum vulgatum.

Harold - fairly sure it's just a common darter S. striolatum although having read them up I gather they are hard to distinguish.

Brian,

Apparently, these two species are commonly confused. The Vagrant Darter has been recorded in various locations in southern England.

I thought that the shapes of the inter wing-base area dorsally, and the apparent black line under the eyes, were enough. I wouldn't bet a huge sum of money on it!
