p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · 6D autofocus settings

I recently bought a Sigma 150-600 and so I've started to take shots of bif. I normally shoot landscape and never bothered using the 6d for wildlife so my question is this. What autofocus settings in the 6d do those of you who shoot a 6d use for bif? Any help would be great

Thanks
Kevin

CF II

tracking sensitivity
---------------------
try at default

This only applies to AI SERVO autofocus.

This sets how quickly — or not — the 6D gives up tracking and looks for a new subject.

If set towards LOCKED ON, the 6D ignores things that get in the way of your subject longer and tends to stay locked-on to that distance, waiting for the hidden subject to return to view.

Set towards RESPONSIVE, the 6D has much less patience, and if it loses the subject, more quickly goes looking for a new one.

accel./decel. tracking
-----------------------
leave at default

Set to a higher value than the default of 0, this lets the 6D track objects moving more erratically.

Set higher, it also makes it more likely that the 6D will be more likely to change focus suddenly and lose the real subject.

AI Servo 1st image priority
AI Servo 2nd image priority
--------------------------------

set both to focus

Use center point focus / AI servo

you can start to adjust tracking sensitivity & accel./decel. tracking
do so in small adjustments and test

important part in my experience is

Use center point focus / AI servo
set AI Servo 1st image priority & AI Servo 2nd image priority to focus

thanks rattlebonez. I am going to try those settings out today. I had good results on the default settings but then yesterday I was tracking a falcon that was fishing and I missed every shot. The ones I did get were not focused as I would like them to be. Hopefully this helps.

Given the 6D is using 5D II class AF, all you need to know is only use the centre point and pray for some keepers.

Not true actually; I've caught some great bif with a 70-200mm 2.8 using servo.

70-200 you say, well those pelicans are hardly taxing for AF
