I would go with the first since it hides the redness in guy's face. Is it a rash, a congenital skin lesion??

Some tweaks could help, but the main problem is the light. It is easier to tweak for the light issues in B & W.

Definitely agree with Karen - tough lighting again. Were you guys hanging out under some trees getting some mixed light coming through?

I dig the sepia feel somewhere in between what you and Karen came up with. The dude could pass for Civil War. The chick, maybe not.

You better take the cream of these steampunk shots and serialize them.

Good question and I don't know (my guess is rosacea).
At any rate the BW does minimize the issue.
And I already have done a bit of toning down blemishes with a low clarity brush.

Yep.
And a nice sepia conversion.

Yeah, he has the Civil War vibe, as did a few others.
Lighting was, as you have said, mixed. Some is my own doing. While I did ask folks to let me take their pictures and occasionally had them move, I was uncomfortable dragging folks 30 feet or more to better lighting. Which is me. Most of the folks were flattered and pleased to have their souls captured on (digital) film. Got to get used to this.
