Will non Ai Nikon glass fit my D 600? I am looking at a 24mm non Ai Nikon lens.

Generally not without modification to the lens. You can damage your camera if you try to mount a pre AI lens.

One more question, what would it cost (estimated) to have a non Ai lens, Ai'd by Nikon?

Nikon will not do the work. This fellow can modify the lens by milling the aperture ring.

To my mind the job is not ideal, but it works.

There are also instructions on the web for you to do it yourself with a file.

This guy seems to have some original Nikon conversion kits for selected lenses. This would be the best alternative.

The Non-Ai glass will bend the AI prong on your D600, so the answer is no. Only the Df with its ability to flip-up its AI prong can mount non-Ai glass.

I've Ai converted a 24 2.8 Nikkor-N.C...very easy job, took 5 minutes with a file

You just need to eyeball where the notch needs to be cut and bob's your uncle

For many of these lenses it seems like a DYI project, that is if you have proven general DYI skills and the tools needed. Otherwise not expensive to pay for the conversion.

Excellent illustration by Joseph.

I would add this link with extensive info:

http://pindelski.org/Photography/2013/02/06/nikkor-ai-conversions-diy/

Almost all of my pre-AI Nikkors were converted following Pindelski link above.

As an example this was for the legendary Sonnar design Nikkor-P 105/2.5:

DIY-ai-conversion-set by Jose, no Flickr

I have routinely doing myself ai conversions, since I prefer the original aperture rings, specially in the case of scalloped ones.
Contrary to Pindelski, I prefer to maintain the aperture "claw" just because I like the original look of the lens.
All shots with D7000 + Micro-Nikkor 55mm f/3.5 hand held.
Debut shot ("selfie") of the ai'd lens with D7000 hand held.

SOME non-AI glass will fit without modification, as i recently discovered...and filing down the aperture ring literally took me 30 seconds...

https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1361781

There's a chart on this page that will tell you where on the aperture ring you need to start filing...

http://pindelski.org/Photography/2013/02/06/nikkor-ai-conversions-diy/

As a funny side note, I recently put a roll of film through this Nikon FM, using a non-AI lens...I forgot you have to stop-down meter with those lenses, so consequently i shot the entire roll about 2-3 stops underexposed....I realized at the last frame....luckily I just pushed the roll 2 stops and most of the roll was still ok....I'll only make that mistake once!! Lol
