One of the features that I looked forward the most was the ability of this camera to AF with an extender, which the 7D lacked. This is a 400mm 5.6 lens and with the extender some IQ is lost but the images are very usable. Focus is fast but not as fast as with the lens alone.

People are likely wondering about your flat statement that the 7D did not work with extenders.

The original 7D focused just fine with extenders. If you used a combination of lens plus extender that resulted in a aperture smaller than f/5.6, you could not AF, but that's a choice the user made.

Great looking results!
I've often debated selljng my Tamron 150-600 to pick up the 400 f5.6 as it is light and has fast AF, looks like it would do nicely with a TC and my 7dii.
Thanks for the pics.

Why use a Sigma 1.4x TC? Is it better than the Canon 1.4x III in some way?

Was the one I had. I bought it to use it with the Bigmos and the 7D. It degraded the image too much and was too much of a hassle. I put it away and when I got then 7D just gave it a try...would like to try a Canon and see how they compare.
