People have mentioned the 1.0.4 release for a few weeks now and availability in Asia.
I still believe that CR refers to yet a different newer release that would warrant something more significant like 1.1.0 release. Just my opinion.

Hell! I would guess there is nothing wrong with your camera any more.

Seems to be fine. Whatever they did worked. Still interested in a FW update if it helps any but I was not expecting it.

This was listed on the Asian websites as released May 13th which is tomorrow here but today there!! I think this is all we are getting. Often factory bodies show up with the newer FW earlier than the general release and that seems to be what happened with some people getting grey market bodies with 1.04 over the past few weeks. The FW was made on April 23rd.

Updated mine from the Asia site (I'm asian )
Didn't brick my camera, so that's good.
I won't get a chance to test it on BIF (that's where I was having issues) until at least tomorrow. Hopeful, but not expecting miracles.

Tony, I actually downloaded both, but ended up using your copy. They have identical file sizes.
Thanks for the links.

I meant my 7DII to help determine if you really have focus problems with yours.

Because they are moving at a snails pace?

Looks like the new firmware only addresses minor issues....it took me a while to dial in the AF but it seems to be working well now...

I just sent my 7D2 body into Canon. I enclosed several fixed shots using spot AF and birds are blurred with my 500 F4 I. They got it and said "Based on our initial examination, we will begin the necessary repairs". So may be a FW fix is needed or a mechanical fix will cure the AF problem.

About time. I shot over 2000 images in the past two days using it and I daresay the hit/miss ratio was exceedingly bad, less than ten percent. Some days its amazingly good and other days it would function better as a doorstop.

So it sounds no better than the 7D, which was highly schizophrenic in its AF and IQ.

Glad I didn't rush out and sell my 1D IV for this ... yet. I may well pick up one, but I can wait another 12 months if needs be.

I think the 5DS/r is actually going to be pretty safe from issues. It appears to be a 5D3, with some 7D2 software and a new sensor. I think the next big issues will come in the 1DX MkII if the rumours of a radically different AF system are at all true. Then again, Canon would probably try not allow such issues in the 1 series flagship....however, their history for 1 series issues is not great (1DX recall, 1D3....)

Radically different AF already. The 1D X was a major leap for Canon that had used the 45 pt system since the EOS 3 came out. I'd be surprised if they had something totally different to the 1DX/7DII AF already in the works however.

I've been photographing lumber with my 1DS Mark III -- I have to say that it has nailed the focus every time!

Oops, sorry, misinterpreted your statement. Yeah, let's do that sometime. I'm in PI right now, will let you know when I'm settled back in Glen Cove.

There is a deadline of the 2016 Olympics that will guarantee a 1DXII by that date. Aug 5th 2016. However, I'd expect Canon would want it out a number of months (6?) before those games to work out the bugs as always.

Agreed...I was told before the last Olympics that we would have a new body to take with us and they came through. Needless to say the X performed fantastically at the games.

They'll never tell us right out but every time we ask about a new body for the next games they sure indicate that something new will be ready. There's no better venue to unveil a body made for sports/action then the Olympic games...it puts the body in the hands of the people than can make it sing and therefore gives the company a ton of free publicity.
