p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Gimbal Head Advice Needed

I am in the market for a Gimbal head and was wondering what anyone thinks of Induro GHB2 Gimbal Head. I know according to B&H it is discontinued. The biggest lens that I have is a 300 f/2.8 IS MK I. Although all my accessories are RRS, I was hoping that I would not have to spend $800 for a ball head. Any advice or suggestions that you might have is much appreciated.

Cheers!

That looks really good specially for the price. What do you think of Induro GHB2 Gimbal Head for $250?

I use Induro's sidekick knock off called the GBHA. I cuuently use it with a Nikon 200-400 f4 VR & D300 with grip. I'm guessing the the body & lens are about 10 pounds or so.

Check out Jobu's offerings, too. $800 for a gimbal head is waaaay overpriced.

What is the advantage of using a sidekick over a regular Gimbal bottom mount?

-portability
-weight
-less bulk
-works with many existing ballheads.
-versatility

The SideKick is way smaller, lighter, and less expensive than a full gimbal head It does a fine job for biggish lenses lenses like my 500/4L IS. It goes on your existing ball head (assuming you have a decent ball head), and so all you have to carry is the 'one arm' of the SideKick, instead of a big gimbal head in addition to or instead of your ball head.

if you are referring to the RRS setup, yes, it is pricey. but it give you again a higher degree of versatility, portability and features if you just look at the way it is done. still the most unique and precise one out there it allows for more variables. so if its not for just everyone. the price is relative but not as you say.

Yes, I agree. I think RRS should stand for really really sweet!

Also keep an eye on the buy and sell forum here. Every now and then a good gimbal is offered. I recently picked up a wimberley full gimbal (newer version) at a significant discount. You just have to look for them and have a little patience.

Sidekick + Arca-Swiss Monoball ballhead. But when you factor in the cost of the two it is almost the cost of a Full Wimberley.
