p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · The Texas Desert

Been busy as heck lately and shooting has only been here and there and not even much time to get on the computer but a couple times a day.
Had some time while I was working on a project in Monahans Texas of all places and found the sand dunes there.
I have to say for what they are they are pretty cool.
Perhaps not a cool as Death Valley but they do have some beauty to them.
One day shooting there had a crazy windstorm as I keep on testing out the new Tamron 15-30mm lens. The more I use it the more I like it.
I did some testing shooting into the sun and lens flare. I have to say it beats my Nikon 14-24 hands down in that respect. At f/8-11 its very sharp corner to corner on the D810.
This lens give the Nikon 14-24mm a run for the money.
I will be keeping this bad boy
Even used it for the Milky way shot. Wanted to do some long exposures with the tracking mount but the sky transparency was horrible so I had to shoot some high ISO short exposures.

Added a fourth shot of White Sands here in New Mexico with the Tamron 15-30mm. Just really amazed with its performance as a landscape lens.

Hey Klaus,

#2 and 4 are my favorites here. Thanks for the update too on that new 15-30mm Tamron. I am set with my WA lenses, but I am sure many will find that info valuable.

I like the last one the most. Would you mind sharing the length of exposure for the milky way shot?

Thanks everyone. Jim, I gotta tell you the Tamron 15-30 is no slouch. For the price its a fantastic lens. After looking at several files the corner sharpness of my copy is as good and even better than my Nikon 14-24 at f/10-11

Nice as always Klaus!

Those Texas dunes remind me of some out in the desert by Hanksville that I always mean to shoot...

Great shots.
I'm partial to the last two.
Wonderful milky way scene. I've been chomping at the bit for that Tamron to replace my Samyang. With the metabones, the Samyang is just barely hard infinity stop. I think for my next trip I'll at least rent it.

Beautiful images Klaus, I always enjoy your work.
I know you've used the Zeiss 21mm in the past, how would you say the Tamron compares as far as contrast and sharpness?

These are really great! My favorite is the first one. The feeling of movement with the blowing sand and foreground plant, combined with the warm colors and glow of the sun, really make this a super image.

Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts and comments.
Happy you all have enjoyed these images.
Actually surprised since they are not really good at all. Thank you for your kindness!

Bill,

Yep, its not quite as good at the Zeiss in contrast but pretty close. The corner sharpness is there though. When I compare to my Zeiss images to the ones from the 15-30 most focal lengths on the Tamron are sharper with the exception of around 30mm
Its a very nice lens.
