One of my favorite subjects to work is large flocks of birds in the air. The subject allows me to play with patterns, color, contrast, motion and blur. Here are 9 photos taken at early morning at Nickerson Beach, Long Island, New York. I hope you enjoy this set.

All: D300 + Sigma 150-600 Sport @ 600mm, ISO 400, 1/1000, f6.3, Fill flash (Metz 64 + JJC flash extender)

Very nice Morris i love large flocks also i like to compare how many birds have the exact same wing positions

Cool stuff Morris. I like 7 and 8 for the patterns and as most birds on edge, wings down/up (if that makes any sense, lol).

I don't have much luck getting lots of birds in the same plane of focus in flocks like this, but this is a nice set. It's very interesting how different each shot looks as the light hits them at various angles. Nicely done.

Now that is very cool...probably even better in person but I do like the frame filled with all those boids!

It is very different in person Eric. We see a wind angle view and thousands of little birds racing past forming a cloud of sorts.

Great light, patterns making more of a tableau than picture with with picks being 1, 6 and 8.
