Hi all. I have somehow been tasked by my family to do some scanning of a box of old family photos. There are no negatives and most all are 4X6 or smaller. I would say that half are in B&W and half in color. I wanted to know what settings I should enable (Epson V500) and set for good quality scans. They don't need to be professional level but the goal is mainly to have an electronic copy to share and view on a monitor. There may be the occassional person who will print a 4X6 but nothing larger. What resolution should I scan at and what would be a good target file size? Any other tips would be appreciated before I start on this task...

If you're scanning just prints, the highest resolution I would use is 300ppi. Anything higher would be just a waste of hard drive space. I would initially scan them as 16-bit tiffs (if you're planning on touching them up), with the final output as JPGs.
