p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Yosemite Falls, B&W 6x7

Like anyone else, when I go to Yosemite, I think of sunrise, golden hour.
But during they day the icons look pretty good in B&W!
Here are a few form last weeks trip.
Taken with a Pentax 6x7, 75mm w/Yellow filter on the 1st two
Exposed on Pan F, & developed in Rodinal.
I managed to snap, soup & scan in barely a week. Sort of a record for me!

The first two were taken just east of Swinging Bridge.
The light was changing a lot as the clouds were moving.
So the face of the falls was shaded in at least the first shot.

This last one isn't a true landscape, but it just spoke of what it can be like living in Yosemite Valley

All three are nice captures Dan. Three is my favorite for sentimental reasons.

Very pleasing captures in the "off-hour" light.

1 and 3 are especially appealing. The stump is too prominent, centered and distracting in the second.

Chez, I agree Glad I took the landscape afterwards.

Jim, that is what got my attention, the cabin & the Dogwoods made me think of something Ansel might have seen & photographed.
That is the extent of my comparison

Doug, I really liked the tones & tight grain from the Pan F. I will be posting a few more Dogwood images when the film comes back

Thanks
Dan

Hey Dan,

#1 has a magenta cast, I don't like that for a B&W. #2 looks better as a B&W but is lacking in contrast and the granite walls are almost blown out.

In both #1 and 2 that stump is just way to centered. The stump is cool, but still think thirds as you compose. That stump should be to the left of Yosemite Falls in #1, and that composition would have rocked. In #2 with that vertical comp, not sure which way you could have gone with the stump, but lined up with the falls is a definite no go here.

Now #3, that is a very sweet shot, the look of the B&W is perfect! And yes, this is a shot I could see Ansel taking.

So.... do you have #1 with the stump off center a lot more, and can you get the deep blacks and cool contrast of #3 in it with no magenta?

Anyway, those are my thoughts.

Jim

Well, Jim always a help.
I made the mistake saving in color space form scanner. Easy fix for #1.
Unfortunately no other perspective to offer for it & number 2 has the same problem. Well I got 1 for 3.
Thanks
Dan
