Which program do you normally use to convert from fisheye to rectangular view?

For single images I use Lightroom, for multiple (stitched) images I use PanoramaStudio.

Thanks - I wasn't aware that LR can convert fisheye photos into rectlinear ones. I am not familiar with PanoramaStudio software.

I think with LR you just slide the distortion slider all the way to the other end?

I'm on a massive summer road trip but thankfully I've actually had a few moments for photography

All with the EM5 and Pany 7-14

First shot is from USS Alabama's main guns.
Second is inside the gun assembly (very hot and cramped!)
Third is a large oak near a curve where I grew up -- dangerous shot because the 15 mph is rarely adhered to

Tarocco: excellent perspective. I imagine that would be a 3 vertical stitch.

A few cross-post from the A7 thread:

I don't know if this thread is also about panoramic projections based on images with ultra-wide lenses. At least the following images which I took last week (while "flying" over Berlin) are as wide as it gets (360°) and taken with a Canon 8-15mm FE lens:

Great images, Markus!
Very unique and well executed. Could you explain a bit your technique. I assume they are stitched from a couple of FE shots. How many? An what is the trick to not get your tripod and/or yourself in the image? How far above the ground was the camera?

Nice series
Just do normal pano, it doesn't need to be 360 degrees, and then it's processed...
A good tutorial:

Thanks Boris and LightShow! Actually I used exactly the technique from LightShows link. In the above planets I started with taking and stitching (every panorama software and even Lightroom does this well) full 360° panoramas (360° isn't necessary, but the quality of the results are way more predictable): 6 shots @ 12mm fisheye, which covers the zenith, hence no extra image for the zenith. The nadir with the tripod in it was chosen as small as possible and left out in the 6 shots. In the past I also took an extra image from the ground, handheld (i.e. I handheld the tripod with the camera on it to get more reach), from 2-3 directions, to cover the nadir. Nowadays I simply left out the nadir and fill it in post-processing. I always try to place the tripod on structures that are easy to fill in PP. In the above shots the camera was 50-150cm above the ground. I never had the impression that it is of much importance for the appearance of the planet how high above the ground the camera is.

Thanks Markus and Lightshow! It wasn't clear to me how you avoid the tripod in the image. Your explanation really helped.

Those are spectacular, Ulff. I've rarely seen this done this well. I've also never attempted it myself and had no idea how they are done. So thanks LightShow, for the link.

Since I've been somewhat uninspired lately I thought I should tinker with a couple older photos using this method. Can't post here, because the original photo has nothing to do with UWA, but I'll link to the pic on Flickr below. I used a five year old photo taken from the top of Rockefeller in NYC. Shot in jpeg, manhandled in post at a time I really had no clue what I was doing (not that I do now, just even more so back then) and finally manipulated in PS, which I almost never use for my professional or personal photos and therefore use at a novice level.

I see what you mean about it being easier when using a 360 pano, Ulff. Mine isn't even a wide shot and the "seam" is looking pretty rough. Still, kind of rewarding when you apply to the right photo. Here's my first attempt:

Markus, how long did it take you in each shot to remove people? They all seem to be in crowded places.

Thanks, twelveish! Your first attempt is really good in my opinion, you used a very good subject for this technique. Regarding the seam: I had to look for a very long time on your image to finally detect it. Without knowing where it is (and that it exist at all), it is quite difficult to spot.

A good question! Removing people has been the biggest challenge for me in these images, although I haven't used the very time consuming way of removing people in post-processing. Actually I removed not a single person. I simply visited these places when nobody except me was around, at around 4:00 a.m. in the early morning. So I exchanged endless photoshop-time with sleep-deprivation
