I dig it!

Definitely tighten up the crop.

As cropped, it's stretched too thin vertically and detracts from the intimate and more closed in feeling that such a path would impart on a viewer. Also, that big of sky is pulling my eyes away as well.

I also [hastily] cloned out the bit of flag poking through the green of the leaves.

Really, really like this shot and I think that the person in the pathway totally brings it home.

Cheers,

Jeff

.edit Added some slight vignetting at the top part.

+1 @ the crop and the human element does add a very nice sense of scale.

Nice shot Scott!

STOP IT!

Edit: Actually... It doesn't look half bad now that I look at it.

Cant believe Im actually going to buck the trend here and say that I prefer the original shot. I like a little tighter crop (not much) on the side and the top, but like the effect of the taller trees providing a canopy tunnel. A dome if you will...Wow the new kid has an opinion.. ..I like this image....

Thanks to all of you.
I agree some cropping improves.
Here is a revision with a bit more height than the other revisions and with the flag desaturated to reduce distraction. LR only. But cloning out the flag is probably more effective.
What say you all? Including the new kid with the opinion?

Ah, cool picture of Dueler’s Alley where the ''Whistling Doctor'' was shot in late 1700's.
Recognized it at once being a SC native and lover of history. I too like the high walls since that is why they went behind there to duel. Maybe fill in sky a tad.
The person at end really makes the shot better. Have been wanting to get a spooky night shot when I see my brother down there on a visit.
Just saw your edit looks nice.

Thanks Don.
Glad the compromise crop looks good.
Great to hear the backstory....which I did not know. And you know the spot; how cool is that!

Scott - compromise is the strongest yet and finds a happy medium between the first two.

Unsure about keeping the desat. flag vs. cloning - judgement call there.

Now give me my mono conversion, dammit!

I wonder about the second figure and the relationship between the two.

Maybe some rotation. skew mods and a few other tweaks?

Scott,

Like your rework efforts @ crop / desat. Like Jeff's tonal values in the mono better than the warm toning on this one.

Went for a web brick HDR result Scott. Might be over saturated for some (but it's what I do).
